Working from home is great. It enables you the flexibility to be able to choose where you work, have more freedom with your work hours and not have to spend hours slogging on a commute. It gives you chances to spend more time with your family and to work in a place where you feel comfortable, away from the distractions of the workplace. Yet while there are many benefits, it can also be hard to focus sometimes and you might find that you aren’t as organised as when you work in the office, surrounded by others on the same clock as you. If that is you, we have put together some top tips that can help you to be more organised when working from home.
Have a designated work space
When you work from home, it can be easy to just work from your laptop sitting in bed or on your sofa. You might set up for the day on your dining table, or decide to work from a few different places. While this might be ok every now and again, you’ll soon find you don’t have the right space to spread out on and have all you need for a successful day ahead. In order to be as organised as possible, assign yourself a dedicated workspace where you can easily work, write notes and not be distracted.
Write down your goals and tasks
No matter the department you work in, you will have tasks and goals to achieve in your work day. It could be you need to get in touch with a company such as Brand Catalyser to create your marketing plans and strategies, perhaps you need to create a social media plan, or maybe you need to make a certain amount of sales calls. No matter what it is on your to-do list, the best way to make sure it gets done is to actually write out a physical list. This could be on a whiteboard or notebook – or even better, a digital planner!, just make sure it’s accessible and you can cross out what you’ve done when you’ve done it.
Tidy your desk at the end of every day
For the best start to each day make sure you clear your desk at the end of the day. This will mean you can begin the next day with a clear and productive space. You don’t want to be juggling yesterday’s half-drunk cups of tea and scraps of paper. Not only will things get lost and missed, but it makes for an unproductive space to spend your time.
These are just three of the top tips you can use in order to improve your organisation when you are working from home. No matter if you work from home a few days a week alongside going to the office, or if you work from home all the time, these tips are sure to help.
