Key2Success Training Series 2 Video 4: Strength Maximizer
By Branden Bodendorfer | Published January 23, 2023
The Strength Maximizer is a Key2Success training exercise that has you identify your existing strengths first, then build your goals and daily tasks around them instead of forcing yourself into a generic planning template.
Most planning advice tells you to fix your weaknesses first. The Strength Maximizer flips that. This is video 4 in the Key2Success Training Series 2, and it's built around a simple idea: you get further faster when your plan leans on what you're already good at.
In this video I walk through the exact exercise I use with coaching clients to identify their top strengths and then map their goals directly on top of them, rather than treating strengths and goals as separate conversations.
By the end, you'll have a short list of your own strengths and a starting point for building them directly into your planner.
Video Transcript
The strength maximizer exercise works because most people plan around their weaknesses without ever taking inventory of what they're already good at. Once you identify your top strengths, the strength maximizer framework helps you restructure your daily plan so those strengths get used first, instead of squeezed in after everything else is done. That reordering alone tends to produce better results than trying to fix every weakness at once. For more on strengths-based approaches to productivity, see Gallup's CliftonStrengths resources. Most people notice a shift in energy within the first week of applying it.
