At Key2Success Planner, we like to keep up on a wide variety of topics. After a couple of years studying the Enneagram, we wanted to examine Digital Planning and the Enneagram in more depth. The Enneagram is a personality system that designates 1 of 9 different types to each person. It is a great tool to understand oneself and other people. Each of the 9 types is interconnected, meaning that in times of growth or stress, a type moves into qualities of another type.

It’s a complicated system, but one that has centuries of research and analysis. If you’re interested in learning more, start with a book called “The Road Back To You” by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile. To determine your Enneagram type, simply do a Google search for “Enneagram test” and choose one that fits your needs.

Digital Planning and the Enneagram

Each of the 9 personality types can benefit from digital planning! Outlined below is a brief overview of each type, along with the benefits they can reap through digital planning. First, determine your Enneagram type by taking a test online or through a book. Then, learn how digital planning can help you to succeed – especially the Key2Success Planner!

Enneagram Type 1 – The Reformer
Type 1’s are principled, purposeful, self-controlled, and perfectionist. They don’t like errors, laziness, and have a high standard of order and morality. 1’s like to make lists and check items off that list. Digital planning is a perfect fit for 1’s because it complements their desire for organization and purpose. 1’s are naturals at digital planning, but if you’re a 1 looking to really harness the power of digital planning, we think you’ll really like the Vision pages in Key2Success. If you’re a longtime paper planner, click here to learn how to embrace digital!

Enneagram Type 2 – The Helper
Type 2’s are caring, generous, people-pleasing, and intrusive. They like working with others and are attracted to making personal connections. 2’s can use digital planning to organize their contacts, set goals for relationships, and keep track of their many social appointments – and also learn how to transform those appointments into something meaningful. 2’s will find themselves gravitating towards the Relationships goal planner in the Key2Success Planner and might also find joy in the CRM Toolkit.

Enneagram Type 3 – The Achiever
Type 3’s want to accomplish things! They are adaptable, efficient, and image-conscious, and love self-development. A digital planner is the ideal tool for a Type 3, as it helps organize all aspects of life. The Key2Success Planner specifically is designed to help cast a vision, set measurable goals, and determine steps to achieve those goals – all things a 3 is pursuing. 3’s will especially enjoy the Professional Builder, which organizes long-term goals.

Enneagram Type 4 – The Individualist
Type 4’s are intuitive, expressive, individualistic, and temperamental. They don’t like uniformity and regulation and would rather be creative and put their mark on the world. A digital planner is a tool that 4’s can use to journal and set time to be creative with purpose. 4’s are naturals in career fields like the arts, hospitality and tourism, and sales and marketing. The Key2Success CRM Toolkit and Communications Planner are great for people in these fields of work.

Enneagram Type 5 – The Investigator
Type 5’s are perceptive, secretive, innovative, and detached, disliking intrusions on their time and space and attracted to depth and learning. 5’s like data and intellectual reasoning. A digital planner can provide the space to set incremental, analytical goals. The Key2Success Planning community consists of professors, data engineers, and even several people who work at NASA.

Enneagram Type 6 – The Loyalist
Type 6’s are committed, responsible, suspicious, and anxious. They don’t like change, unpredictability, or chaos, and are attracted to clear structures and foresight. A digital planner is a godsend for 6’s, because it allows them to create structure. Beyond the calendar pages, 6’s will also enjoy the Key2Success budget planner and habit tracker. The planner can also help 6’s establish more of a sense of calm, thus moving them towards a healthy growth pattern and the ability to cast a vision and create an Ideal Week that is proactive rather than reactive.

Enneagram Type 7 – The Enthusiast
Type 7’s are spontaneous, versatile, talkative, and scattered. They don’t like limitations and routines and are attracted to new possibilities and excitement. While 7’s don’t like routine, using a digital planner to craft a routine in which they can still factor in time for excitement and develop possibilities (vision) helps create less limiting structure. The Key2Success planner doesn’t want to control your life- it is designed to help you develop your best life, which is what 7’s are constantly chasing. By implementing structure into chaos, there is more time for spontaneity. (Fun fact: Key2Success Planner’s founder and CEO is an Enneagram 7.)

Enneagram Type 8 – The Challenger
Type 8’s are self-confident, decisive, willful, and confrontational, disliking indecisiveness and indirectness, attracted to strength and strategic action. In short, 8’s like a plan and a purpose. A digital planner, especially the Key2Success Goal and Vision pages, can help with this. 8’s are naturals in public service, military, and legal jobs. The Key2Success Planning community is comprised of many people in these fields who gravitate towards the strategic planning pages, such as the Professional Builder. They also enjoy the 1-on-1 planning sessions with Branden.

Enneagram Type 9 – The Peacemaker
Type 9’s are calm, reassuring, complacent, and agreeable, disliking tension and conflict and attracted to harmony and stability. 9’s are skilled at bringing balance and calm to any situation and make every person around them feel heard. They are great counselors, psychiatrists, and HR managers, to give a few examples. 9’s also tend to focus more on others and not enough on their own needs, which is where digital planning can help. 9’s aren’t lazy, but they can be avoidant. A digital planner helps them create structure, manage their time, and take time to determine what they themselves want from life, too.

The Enneagram is a complex subject and this article only grazes the surface. When it comes to the enneagram and digital planning, we are taking a very surface level approach. We hope you enjoyed it!
